Toby Lewis Wins FTOPS Event #35 for $253k; Brits Continue to Crush Sunday Majors
Toby Lewis helped himself to a career-best online score this weekend when he won the 35th FTOPS event for a cool $253,063.21. Elsewhere, Brits kept up the tradition of completely spanking the Sunday Majors across all sites.
Lewis was one of 599 players who bought into FTOPS Event #35 for a bankroll-stretching $2,100. Before you reach for your calculators, we can tell you that the total prize pool stood at an impressive $1,198,000.
This particular FTOPS event took place over two days, with the second and final day being on Sunday. At around 11:00pm, Lewis informed his army of Twitter fans that he had reached the nine-handed final table.
One by one, the final table’s players fell by the wayside and the prize money increased at an alarming rate. Emil “whitelime” Patel of Two Months Two Million fame was the first casualty of the final table; his ninth place finish earned him $22,762.00.
Following Patel to the rail were high stakes cash game specialists “keinebeine” and “d_perignon,” while “exposabre,” “maybe25,” “TrRusT” and “Hombre555” each fell in positions sixth through third, which left Lewis and Clark “snake8484” Hamagami – who chopped the Sunday Million earlier in August – to battle it out for the title of FTOPS Event #345 champion.
The reason Lewis mentioned his internet connection is because he is currently on a lad’s holiday in Croatia with “Lil” Dave Nicholson, Matt Perrins and JP Kelly. We can only imagine the celebrations those four had when Lewis chopped with Hamagami and then went on to win his first FTOPS jersey, securing himself $253,063.21 in the process.
A huge congratulations from everyone at UK & Ireland PokerNews.
Keeping with Full Tilt Poker and the FTOPS, it was a case of close but no cigar for the talented Ben “cheesies” Martin who crashed out of the $635 buy-in FTOPS Main Event in 11th place. Martin picked up $17,566.56 for his efforts, but will be wondering what could have been when he sees the final three players struck a deal that banked them more than $234,000.
Rounding off the larger scores at Full Tilt Poker were Talal “raidalot” Shakerchi who finished third in The Sunday Mulligan for $8,118.00 while over in The Big Ben tournament, Toby Lewis was busy finishing ninth for $1,608.20 and “JKHOSSY” fifth for a more substantial $5,912.50.
PokerStars Sunday Majors
Sunday got off to a perfect start in the PokerStars Sunday Kickoff. After nine long hours at the virtual felt, we had a British one-two when “Gatman0” defeated “CChiton13” heads-up to secure the title. Those two players took home $27,380.17 and $20,028.00 respectively.
Edinburgh’s “Adreny” secured his largest ever cash when he finished third in the Sunday Warm-up. It was an amazing effort by the young Scot who now has an extra $56,611.50 in his PokerStars account.
“White Tator” boosted his bankroll by $10,542.45 when he finished sixth in The Bigger $109, while Rhys “floppinhel” Jones busted 14th in the Sunday 500.
The final table of The Bigger $162 was invaded by the Brits, with four of our players making it there. Alex “asiancutiee” Ward finished ninth, “Havana85” busted eighth, “Paul12907” went further and finished third while “jareth3542” finished as runner-up.
Once again, British players have crushed the Sunday Majors. Will it be you who we are writing about next Monday? We sincerely hope so.
