The third and penultimate starting flight of the 2013 GUKPT Goliath takes place today and everything points towards the £200,000 guarantee being smashed..
With the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour guaranteeing a £200,000 prize pool, the total number of entrants has to be at least 2,000 otherwise the prize pool will have to be added to. After the completion of Day 1a and Day 1b, the total attendance for this year’s tournament stands at 808, which means they only need 1,192 entries over the next two days. With later tarting days traditionally being more popular, the £200,000 guarantee should be eclipsed by the time Friday's Day 1d is done and dusted.
Last year’s Goliath attracted 1,954 players, with 977 of those players buying in on the third and final start day. According to the GUKPT blog, they are “expecting a HUGE turnout!!” today.
Of the 808 starters (re-entries are included in this figure) only 105 player managed to navigate their way through the banana skins that are Day 1s of a quick-structured tournament such as this. Unless it is a mistype, the current chip leader is Michael Greenwood with a colossal stack of 700,000; this huge stack has 200,000 more chips than any other player who has played so far.
Other big stacks include Nishid Pnadipleuman (485,000), Vahid Amirzahiri (422,000), Nathan Tudman (420,100), Nigel Griffiths (384,000), Jordan Michael T Kyle (382,300), Tim White (367,100) and Andriena Nutt (353,900).
Day 1c commences at 12:00 p.m and continues until 16 levels are in the bag. Late registration is open until the end of the sixth level, giving you plenty of time to head down to Coventry and buy into this spectacular event.
Good luck to all PokerNews readers competing today.
