Tim Slater Leads the GUKPT Walsall Main Event After Day 1a
While the majority of the poker world has its attention fixated on the 2013 World Series of Poker Main Event, the city of Walsall has its attention firmly on the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) Main Event that’s currently taking place there.
Day 1a of the £550 buy-in main event attracted 64 entries and by the time nine 60-minutes levels had played out, only 24 of those entrants remained. Among those who will take part in Saturday’s Day 2 include circuit regular Stuart Fox, Ben Jackson and the only player to ever win three GUKPT titles, Julian Thew.
Each of those aforementioned players goes into Day 2 out chipped by Tim Slater, in fact everyone is trailing Slater as he is the current chip leader. Slater bagged up 109,850 chips at the close of play, narrowly placing him in front of Shahla Javadi (108,025) and Gerard Harraghy (107,150).
Slater has a number of impressive results in his poker CV, which include a fifth place finish in the 2011 UKIPT Newcastle Main Event that netted him £14,050 and a second place in a £150 buy-in event (also in 2011) for £6,000.
Day 1b commences at 12:00 on Friday and should see an even more substantial crowd descend on the Walsall Grosvenor G Casino. Join UK & Ireland PokerNews on Saturday to discover the attendance figures and to see if Slater can remain top of the chip counts.
