On Friday afternoon, 108 players piled into the Grosvenor G Casino in Walsall and exchanged £550 for the chance to become a Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) champion. Although there is still a long way to go in the tournament before the champion is decided, Guy Taylor has done his chances of winning no harm by ended Day 1b as the chip leader.
Taylor finished Day 1b with a stack of 124,875 to not onlyu lead Day 1b, but to be the tournament's overall chip leader. Taylor has two previous cashes on his Hendon Mob database; a 10th place finish in the 2007 edition of the Oxford Cup and more rcently he cashed 14th in the 2013 APAT World Championship Main Event. By the time GUKPT Walsall is over, Taylor should have cash number three on his dedicated page.
Forty-two players made it through to Day 2 from the Day 1b flight, among them a number of faces that are familiar on the UK's poker scene. Ellie Biessek finished the night with 124,500 chips and was only just pipped to the post as the tournament's chip leader.
Play resumes at 12:00 sharp and we believe the plan is to play down to the nine-handed final table. This means the money bubble will burst — 17 places are paid — and when it does everyone who still has chips in front of them will net themselves at least £1,080. By the time play comes to an end on Day 2, each player will have secured £1,720 and will only be eight eliminations from the £24,910 first place prize.
