The Brighton leg of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour has historically been one of the most popular stops on the long-running tour and the 2013 edition has continued that trend.
On Thursday, 67 players ponied up the £550 required to buy into the 2013 GUKPT Brighton Main Event. After nine one-hour levels of play, only 23 of those entrants had chips in front of them that needed bagging up for the night.
Of the 23 players who navigated their way through to Saturday’s Day 2, it was Babbis Lappas who accumulated the most chips, ending the night with an impressive stack of 152,750. Despite having a number of impressive live cashes throughout his career, Lappas is still to cash in a GUKPT Main Event, but if he carries on in the same rich vein of form as he started in during Day 1a, he is sure to rectify that situation.
Two other players ended Day 1a with six-figure stack; Regis Burlot and James Williams have 137,650 and 110,150 chips in their stacks.

Another name that is towards the top of the chip counts is Jon “EMSBas” Spinks, a predominately online poker tournament specialist who has some super results in the live arena. Among his many accomplishments, Spinks lists two cashes and a final table appearance in GUKPT events; the final table saw him finish fifth at the 2012 GUKPT Grand Final, and an outright win in a €2,000 side event at European Poker Tour Deauville in February.
