There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that the UKIPT Marbella Main Event has been a massive success; you cannot get 763 players to pay €1,100 and call it anything else.
Forty-eight of that massive field returned to the Casino Marbella on Saturday afternoon and when play ended for the day, only the final table of eight remained. Each of the finalists is guaranteed to take home at least €12,820 for their efforts in Spain, but one of them will be heading home with €158,200 stuffed into their suitcase.
The man who is in pole position for that substantial sum is Ludovic Geilich who leads the tournament thanks to his 4,100,000 stack. Geilich’s stack contains almost 1,300,000 more chips than his nearest rival, Kamil Hrabia of Poland and he will already feel like he has one hand on the UKIPT winner’s trophy.
Standing between Geilich and the UKIPT Marbella title are the aforementioned Hrabia, Sweden's Jonatan Soderstrom and a handful of Spaniards who are certainly going to be well supported on the rail. Representing Spain are Pablo Rojas, Jorge Eguaras Paniagua, Asier Crespo, Fernando Curto and Lucas Blanco.
