UKIPT Marbella Day 1a: Andrey Vladimirovich Shubin Leads
The inaugural PokerStars UKIPT Marbella Main Event kicked off yesterday and saw 352 players descend on the Casino Marbella for the €1,100 buy-in Main Event. By the end of 10 60-minute levels just 1133 of those who started the day remained and they were led by Russia’s Andrey Vladimirovich Shubin.
The overall chip leader bagged up 202,500 chips when play ended for the day after going about his business in a quiet yet highly effective manner. Although Vladimirovich Shubin is an unknown player on the Hendon Mob database, that is sure to be rectified by the time the UKIPT Marbella Main Event ends; especially if he continues in this rich vein of form.
Plenty of other players managed to turn their 20,000 starting stacks into piles of chips worth in excess of 100,000. These included second placed Robert Wybrew (181,000), Pawel Keller of Poland (152,700) and Chris Derrick of the UK (142,500).
Another notables who managed to navigate his way through the minefield of Day 1a was online phenom Ondrej “Vinkyy” Vinklarek. The yong Czech superstar has over $4,100,000 in online poker tournament winnings and over $530,000 in winnings from live tournaments. Vinklarek’s largest score in the live arena tops the scales at €63,000, his reward for finishing second in a €2,000 buy-in side event at EPT Berlin. Although there’s still a long way to go in the UKIPT Marbella Main Event PokerNews would be surprised to not see Vinklarek go deep in it now that he has 126,900 chips at his disposal.
Play resumes in the UKIPT Marbella Main Event at 12:00 on Thursday when over 350 players are expected to turn out for Day 1b. Be sure to tune into UK & Ireland PokerNews for a recap of the action.
