After only 52 players bought into the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour Reading Main Event on Day 1a, the organisers had their fingers crossed for a much larger turnout on Day 1b. If they were saying prayers to the poker gods, they were answered because 113 players bought in for £550, making Reading the busiest £550 GUKPT in history!
Of the 113 entrants, only 44 players managed to navigate their way through to Saturday’s Day 2. These 44 will join the 25 Day 1a survivors, meaning 79 players will return to the G Casino, Reading on Saturday and play down to the final table.
Leading all 79 into battle is the Day 1b chip leader John Burberry who ended with 133,850 chips. Burberry has plenty of cashes in live tournament and also has a fourth place finish in a PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) event, so he knows his way around a poker table.
Others who ended with plenty of chips include David Lloyd (128,850), Andy Probyn (108,000) and Ashley Smith (98,125).
Play resumes at 12:00 on Saturday and the plan is continue playing until only the players at the nine-handed table remain. Tune back into PokerNews tomorrow to discover which players made it to the final, who burst the bubble and who is the man to catch.
