Sam Grafton Wins Big on Day 3 of SCOOP

Sam Grafton

The third day of the PokerStars Spring Championship Of Online Poker (SCOOP) proved to one of the most profitable yet for players of the United Kingdom and Ireland, especially Sam Grafton who walked away with a $153,251 score!

SCOOP Event #8: No Limit Hold’em

Wednesday saw the eighth SCOOP events completed, and what events they were. The $11 low buy-in played out and when the dust had settled in the early hours of Thursday morning it was “1hmm11” of the UK who won top honours. That win was worth a cool $20,057.76.

Amazingly, it was a Brit who won the $109 Medium buy-in too. “potbet11” chopped when heads-up with India’s “aniceboy” to get his hands on a SCOOP watch and $79,681.25 in prize money. “potbet11” was joined at the final table by Matthew “theginger45” Hunt (8th), and in the latter stages of the tournament by Ireland’s “enagster” (11th)and British duo “textbookstu” (18th) and “19Dan86” (21st).

Last, but certainly not least, was the $1,050 High buy-in event. The structure in this tournament was so good that it took until 12:17 this afternoon for the tournament to finish! Eventually it was “Sobizzle21” who claimed top honours, but not before Sam “SamSquid” Grafton helped himself to a $153,251 score after a five-way chop.

Commiserations to Jon “LUFCBAS” Spinks who was the unfortunate soul who burst the final table bubble.

SCOOP Event #9 Pot Limit 5-Card Omaha Hi/Low 6-Max

There were a few deep runs had by our players in the ninth SCOOP Event, going to show we can play crazy high variance games with the best of them.

Our deepest finisher in the $7.50 low buy-in was 18th placed “soumi7” who was awarded $201.79 for their efforts.

There was a similar run in the $82 Medium buy-in by “xQuantum1” of the UK, who finished in 16th place. “xQuantum1” was outlasted by some very takented individuals including “holla@yoboy” (11th) and Team PokerStars Pro Marcel Luske, who finished fifth.

The $700 buy-in High Event was one of mixed emotions for UK players. When the tournament reached its final two tables, the UK made up five of the final 12 players yet we could not squeeze out a win.

themanparris” busted in 12th spot and he was followed out of the door by “WeakyLeeks” (11th) and “MrCoco” (10th). Chris “Moorman1” Moorman crashed out on the final table bubble in seventh place, leaving “Tlick777” to go the deepest of our players, finishing in fourth place for $13,725.60.

SCOOP Event #10: No Limit Hold’em Super-Knockout

All three events are currently paused and awaiting a restart at 19:00 UK time. There are a few UK & Ireland players left in each tournament and we will let you know how they do in tomorrow’s recap of the action.

SCOOP Event #11: Seven Card Stud

The $27 buy-in low event attracted 1,846 players to the PokerStars felt and two UK-based players almost outlasted them all. “xriusa” fell just short of ultimate glory by finishing in sixth place while “redmaaxx” went even closer and busted in third place. The duo won combined prizes in excess of $5,700.

Another player to come frustratingly close to victory was Stephen “stevie444” Chidwick in the $215 Medium buy-in. Chidwick fell at the final hurdle when he lost heads-up to Norway’s “UwouldntKnow”. Chidwick was joined at the final table by fellow UK player “Visionary129” who ultimately finished in fourth place.

Tonight sees Event #10 be completed along with the eagerly anticipated No Limit Single Draw 2-7, the Pot Limit Omaha Heads-Up events and the No Limit Hold’em Rebuy Big Antes tournaments. Here’s to the UK & Ireland players running hotter than the sun!
