Day 1a of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour Portsmouth Main Event played out yesterday, attracting 47 unique players, three of who busted out only to take advantage of the re-entry format and buy back in again.
Of the 50 total entrants, only 23 of them bagged up chips as Day 1a ended. Bagging and tagging the most substantial stack was Morgan Sorfleet who turned his 20,000 starting stack into a tournament-leading 99,125.
According to The Hendon Mob Database, Sorfleet only has one major live tournament cash to his name, a second place finish in the £300 Main Event at the now defunct Fox Poker Club. That resulted netted the youngster £8,035. If he continues in this current vein of form in Portsmouth, it is likely he will have his second live cash and one that is more substantial than the one he currently has on his resume.
Joining Sorfleet at the top of the chip counts at the conclusion of Day 1a were the likes of Clive Macey (82,050), Nick Humphris (76,600) and Alvarez Sabugal (70,300).
Day 1b commences at 12:00 and should see another decent crowd descend on the G Casino in Portsmouth. It will be interesting to see the size of the Day 1b field as it will be competing with the first live day of the International Stadiums Poker Tour at Wembley Stadium. As ever, PokerNews will bring you all of the facts and figures from both the GUKPT Portsmouth Main Event and the ISPT.
