The Grosvenor Casino in Sheffield is to host a two-day poker tournament that coincides with the final of snooker’s World Championship.
The World Snooker Championship Poker Tournament takes place May 5-6 and costs £500+£50 to enter. Not only will there be the typical cash prizes awarded to those players who finish in the money, there will also be plenty of prizes given out during the tournament including seats to the GUKPT Goliath tournament and even a VIP table for 10 to the World Snooker Championship closing party. Whoever reaches the poker tournament's final table will also be invited to the ultra-exclusive closing party, too.
Some of snooker’s biggest stars are expected to buy in, including six-time World Champion Steve Davis.
“I’m working for the BBC at the Crucible but as soon as I get a chance I’ll be at the Grosvenor to see what’s happening in the other green baize game and hopefully play a few hands,” said Davis, “It’s going to be a lot of fun and the great thing about poker is that anyone can win, given a bit of luck and a steady hand.”
Not only will players be able to rub shoulders with their snooker-playing heroes and have a chance of some amazing prizes, they will also be helping a great cause just by buying in. Fifty per cent of each registration fee and 10% of the eventual prize pool is to be donated to the Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice – the official charity of World Snooker.
World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn will be competing in the tournament and he has wasted little time in promoting the event.
“If you fancy yourself as a poker player then get involved because this event is going to set the pulses racing. It’s high stakes and it’s a chance to make a huge profit. Most importantly, a large part of the proceeds are going to the Bluebell Wood which is a fantastic cause.”
Along with the £550 Main Event, there will be a full spread of side events and cash games taking place. There is an £18 freezeout with £1,000 guaranteed, a £28 buy-in tournament that has £2,000 guaranteed, a £50 Bounty tournament and even a Baccarat tournament that is completely free to enter!
If you want to play in the £550 Main Event you can either buy-in on the night, in advance at the Grosvenor Casino Sheffield or via your Grosvenor Poker account.
