The UKIPT London main Event progressed to the official Day 2 yesterday after another 11 one-hour levels were played out at the Grosvenor Victoria Casino. During that time, Wojtek Barzantny somehow managed to turn his 15,000 starting stack into a colossal 275,900 chips, making him the overall chip leader by quite some margin.
Barazanty is in the middle of a golden patch on the UKIPT circuit, a patch that looks set to continue. In November, Barazanty won the inaugural UKIPT Online leg (the final table was played out live in Bristol), defeating Chris Moorman heads-up to claim the £77,126.03 first place prize.
Just a week later Barzantny did the unthinkable and took down the UKIPT Bristol main event for a cool £90,400 and in doing so became the only player in the history of the UKIPT to win back-to-back titles. Now he is in pole position to be the first-ever player to win three UKIPT titles.
In yesterday’s recap we said that Day 1C was going to be huge and that was certainly the case. By the time the registration desk closed there were 491 players who had bought in, taking the total attendance to 1,099! The huge turnout means UKIPT3 London is the largest tournament to take have ever taken place in London. The massive field also means huge prizes as the prize pool tops the scales at £746,221. This will be shared out among the top 144 finishers, a min-cash being worth £1,200 a final table appearance £12,691 and the eventual champion leaving the capital with £156,800 to show for their efforts.
Day 2 begins at 12:00 and will see the 248 players who managed to navigate their way through their respective opening flights, return to The Vic and play down to the money and beyond. Barzantny will be chased by the likes of Day 1A chip leader Ben Jackson (197,700), Marvin Rettenmaier (129,900) and a whole host of big names and famous faces.
Join us on Saturday morning for all of the gory details from Day 2 of the record-breaking UKIPT3 London Main Event.
