It is final table Today marks the start of the European Poker Tour London Main Event but there is another tournament taking place at the famous Grosvenor Victoria Casino that will see one of the eight final members walk away with £156,800. Of course, we are talking about the UKIPT London Main Event.
Forty-nine players returned to “The Vic” on Saturday afternoon, each hoping to progress to today’s final table. At various points during the day the UKIPT dream ended for Jeffrey Hakim (42nd); Ryan Spittles (41st); Jason Duval (40th); Tom Hall (33rd); Jamie Burland (31st); Ismael Bojang (23rd); Olivier Busquet (21st); Richard Trigg (20th); Dara O’Kearney (18th) and Team PokerStars Pro Juan Manuel Pastor (9th).
Although the majority of the familiar names and famous faces are no longer competing in this record-breaking event – the largest poker tournament held in London – there is still plenty of talent showcasing itself in this finale.
Going into the final table with the title of chip leader is Belgium’s Wim Neys, who was railed by his fellow compatriots and Team PokerStars Pros Matthias and Christophe De Meulder. Neys bagged up 3,270,000 chips when Day 3 ended and has now given himself the best chance of leaving London with the coveted UKIPT trophy and title of champion.
Neys may be leading but the chasing pack is not too far behind. Tom Ward’s 2,474,000 stack puts him in second place at the restart, while Philippe Souki (2,402,000) and Ireland’s Chris Dowling (2,262,000) are within touching distance of Ward. Making up the rest of the final table are Day 2 chip leader Sergio Aido Espina (1,748,000); Guy Goossens (1,250,000); Patrick Simcoe (1,234,000) and Cesar Garcia (1,156,000).
The final table restarts at 12:00 sharp and play will continue until one man has won all of the chips in play – all 16,485,000 of them.
