Aaron Famand wins the Sky Poker Tour London Main Event
The ever-popular Sky Poker Tour dropped anchor in the Aspers Casino Wesfield in Stratford City for the London leg of its 2013 tour over the weekend and saw record numbers turn out for the £200 buy-in Main Event.
By the time the registration desk closed there were 267 players seated, which made this particular tournament the largest ever Sky Poker Tour Main Event outside of the Grand Final. The 267 runners created a £53,400 prize pool, with the top 36 finishers each winning a slice of the cash.
The relatively low buy-in did not stop some familiar faces from entering, far from it. Among the 267 entrants were the likes of Tatjana Pasalic, her World Poker Tour winning boyfriend McLean Karr, Sky Poker sponsored pro Julian Thew the European Poker Tour Live commentator extraordinaire Joe Stapleton and two other former WPT champions in Dave Shallow and the IveyPoker pro James Dempsey.
None of the aforementioned players managed to navigate their way through to the nine-handed final table where a minimum score of £1,180 was the least anyone would take home.
Sam Bayliss was the first of the finalists to be eliminated and he was followed to the rail by Silvano Lieghio, Marco Vasconcelos, Valdir Cordeiro, James Plumer and Abdul Miah. Those eliminations left Chris Love and Aaron Flamand to lock horns heads up to play for the title and the £11,905 first place prize. That £11,905 and the champion’s trophy is now in Flamand’s possession after he made a king-high flush to best Love’s lesser flush.
The Sky Poker Tour now heads to Dublin on May 11, which should see another tremendous turnout.
