888 Launches First Real Money Casino on Facebook; Will Hill Buys Out Partner

888 has launched the first real money casino app for the Facebook, the world’s largest and most popular social network. Called MAGIC888 casino, the Facebook app is the first of its kind and features the full range of 888’s slots and table games. Customers can also play on the popular Live Casino.

In order to use the MAGIC888 casino Facebook app, players have to go through stringent age verification checks in an attempt to ensure only eligible Facebook users – that is players who are aged 18-years and above – can play casino games for real money.

In a statement to the London Stock Exchange, Ita Frieberger, COO of 888, said:

“This launch marks a significant extension in our real money social offering. The successful launch of BingoAppy has indicated the potential that social gaming offers, and we are delighted to expand our gaming portfolio with the launch of our MAGIC888 casino. The app gives Facebook users in the UK the opportunity to enjoy 888’s award winning casino while introducing new features which leverage the social experience Facebook offers.”

Shares in publically listed 888 Holdings PLC (888.L) are currently trading at 169.75, up 1.04%, although the share price peaked at 171.50 earlier in the day – a 52 week high.

William Hill and Playtech Cut Ties

In other business news, last Friday William Hill agreed to buy out partner Playtech from their joint venture. William Hill will pay £424m for Playtech’s 29 per cent stake in William Hill Online, just weeks after acquiring Sportingbet for £460m.

The relationship between William Hill and Playtech has been a turbulent one, with injunction and staff walkouts being among the negativity between the companies. William Hill chief executive, Ralph Topping once wrote that is was easier to get hold of Lord Lucan than his Playtech counterpart, Mor Weizer.

William Hill recently announced their 2012 figures and they made good reading. Pre-tax profits rose 48 per cent to £277.7m and Topping is very optimistic for the future.

“Over a five-year timeframe, this organisation should be a £5bn business,” claimed Topping.
