In August 2012, UK & Ireland PokerNews informed you of a change of venue for Season 9’s edition of the European Poker Tour London festival. After a number of years at the Hilton London Metropole Hotel, the upcoming EPT London events were meant to be held at The Landmark Hotel, but those plans appear to have been scrapped.
This humble scribbler is currently covering the action at EPT Deauville where he was quizzed by a number of players about a rumour of EPT London switching venues to the Grosvenor Victoria casino. A number of enquiries were made but nobody would commit to a definitive answer. However, anyone visiting the London page on the EPT website will see there are two venues listed as hosting EPT London.
The first on the list is The Vic, which is located within throwing distance of the Hilton hotel and the other is the new poker room in the Hippodrome that has been dubbed PokerStars Live. The newly refurbished Hippodrome poker room is set to open its doors to the public on March 4 with its first major tournament being the UKIPT London festival that begins on April 12.
Holding EPT London events at The Vic is nothing new, it is a partnership that has worked well in the past, but there are member of the poker community who are questioning whether or not side events will be capped or not due to the size constraints of The Vic.
It will not be the first time a tournament has been held in different venues in London, the Genting Poker Series London leg grew so large the Fox Poker Club had to divert some players to the nearby Palm Beach casino in order to accommodate them all. Of course, the inaugural World Series of Poker Europe was held in three venues simultaneously.
As soon as UK & Ireland PokerNews has more information on this matter we will bring it to you.
