Yesterday saw 307 players exchange €5,300 for 30,000 tournament chips and the chance to become the champion of the PokerStars.fr European Poker Tour Deauville Main Event. Among the 307 starters were an army of Brits, some of whom managed to navigate their way through the eight 75-minute levels, while others fell by the wayside. One Brit who had a good day at the office was the EPT Loutraki champion, Zimnan Ziyard.
Ziyard didn’t have the best of starting tables in Day 1a, finding himself to the direct right of former EPT London champion David Vamplew. Early on in proceedings, Ziyard found himself down to around half of his original stack size, but battled valiantly to first rebuild back to 30,000 chips and then press on and add to his stack throughout the day. Ziyard finished with an impressive stack of 112,600 chips.
Another Brit who showed a good account of himself on Day 1a was Sam Grafton. The reigning GUKPT Grand Final champion was in vocal mood all day long and his fun-loving demeanour helped him to end the day with colourful ceramic discs worth 110,900.
Other British and Irish heroes to look out for on Tuesday’s Day 2 include James Mitchell (102,700); Mathew Frankland (79,900); David Kilmartin (68,500); Rory Brennan (53,600); John O’Shea (25,300) and John Eames (19,900).
This after sees Day 1b take place and another gaggle of Brits and Irishmen, and women, are preparing to go into battle. Confirmed to play are Team PokerStars’ Liv Boeree, Vicky Coren and Jake Cody; Dermot Blain and Jason Tompkins of Ireland; James Akenhead, Luke Schwartz, Jack Ellwood and Marc Wright among others. Fingers crossed the majority of them manage to navigate their way through what should be a 500-strong field.
Should any of our heroes and heroines wish to start Day 2 with the title of chip leader, they will have to amass 189,000 chips by the time the curtain comes down on today’s proceedings as Jesper Feddersen turned his 30,000 starting stack into 188,900 during yesterday’s Day 1a.
Good luck to everyone competing today. Follow the action on the PokerNews Live Reporting pages.
