WPT National Dublin Day 1b: Jude Ainsworth Leads; Second Place Overall

Jude Ainsworth

The World Poker Tour National Series Dublin main event played out the second of its two starting flights yesterday at the Citywest Hotel, where a much more substantial crowd of 172 players exchanged €1,320 for 25,000 chips and a one-hour clock. The man who bagged up the most chips at the end of Day 1b was Jude Ainsworth.

Ainsworth ended Day 1b with a stack of 181,000 chips thanks to a huge double up where he flopped a set and managed to get it fully paid off. Ainsworth, a former Team PokerStars Pro, is always a major threat when he enters a poker tournament, but now that he has mountains of chips at his disposal that threat is even more significant.

The man from Claregalway is predominately an online tournament specialist, one who has amassed winnings of over $3,500,000, but he is yet to reproduce his online form in the live arena – that despite winning $620,591 in live events since 2008. Could this be the tournament that boosts Ainsworth’s career earnings and pushes his live game to the next level?

Another player who finished Day 1b with the welcomed problem of having to figure out how to fit loads of chips into a single chip bag was the PKR sponsored pro Vladimir Geshkenbein. The hyper-aggressive vodka and lemon gulping Russian bagged up an impressive 173,500 chips when play finally ended and, like Ainsworth, will be seen as a massive threat when Day 2 commences this afternoon.

Day 2 gets under way at 12:00 today and will see the 89 players who survived their respective starting days return to their seats. Of these 89 players, just 27 will be paid out – a min-cash being worth €2,350.
