TCOOP Day 1: Jonathan Karamalikis Wins Event #4

TCOOP

The latest edition of the popular Turbo Championship Of Online Poker (TCOOP) kicked off yesterday with massive fields and even larger prize pools. By the time the fourth TCOOP event was completed, 53,804 players had battled it out on PokerStars’ virtual felt and $2,237,020.80 was awarded as prizes!

Event #1: $27 NL Hold’em 6-Max

Event #1 attracted a massive number of players, 38,176 to be exact, and they helped to completely obliterate the $750,000 guaranteed prize pool. By the time registration closed, the prize pool stood at a most impressive $937,220.80, almost $100,000 of that was reserved for the eventual champion.

The tournament ended in a six-way chop, sixth place “luda77k” of Russia locking up $14,743.77 payday, almost double the original sixth place pay out. The bulk of the prize money is now in the PokerStars accounts of “sascha_me” and eventual winner “jogin23” who picked up $65,712.36 and $65,382.90 respectively – not a bad wage for just five-and-a-half hours work!

Event #2: $55 NL Omaha Hi/Low

TCOOP Event #2 saw 3,144 players exchange $55 for 5,000 tournament chips and the chance to become a TCOOP champion. As one would expect from an Omaha hi/lo tournament featuring a no limit betting structure, the action was fast and furious from the second the first cards were dealt.

A total of 396 players managed to reach the money places, including, man of the moment Rick “ThEcLaiMEer” Trigg (310th) and Team PokerStars Pro Martin “AABenjaminAA” Hruby (220th). The final table saw online veteran “gbmantis” picked up $1,336.20 for his ninth place finish, whilst eventual champion "Yaba" of Canada took home $22,339.14 after a three-way chop.

Event #3: $215 NL Hold’em Knockout

The $215 Knockout event was the only one of the first four TCOOP tournaments that did not reach the guarantee, though it only missed out by $774! The knockout format saw players pick up $41.25 for every opponent they sent to the rail, an amount picked up 18 times by “tsiampas65" of Cyprus – the most of any other player in the tournament! He finished in 18th place.

The tournament paid out the top 585 finishers, Team PokerStars Online’s Mickey “mement_mori” Petersen (408th and 1 KO) being one of the first to be awarded prize money. Other notable cashers included Toby “810ofclubs” Lewis (360th and 2KO); Ankush “pistons87” Mandavia (298th and 5KO); that man Rick “ThEcLaiMEer” Trigg again (166th and 6KO), and Andrey “ThePateychuk” Pateychuk (107th and 2KO).

Each player who made it to the final table with chip stacks intact guaranteed themselves at least $6,000, with the eventual winner looking at winning $117,750 for just 4.75 hours of work! In the end, “max700” and “Patokaka” chopped heads-up to win $96,242.60 and $109,257.40 respectively. Champion “Patokaka” also had an addition $660 added to their account thanks to the 16 bounties they collected along the way!

Event #4: $55 NL Hold’em

TCOOP Event #4 saw another impressive field compete, 7852 players buying in for $55 and creating a prize pool of $392,600.

A number of high profile players helped themselves to a slice of the prize pool including, Kevin “Civell” Vandersmissen (677th); Tom “hitthehole” Middleton (668th) and Team PokerStars Pro Christophe “chrisdm” De Meulder (326th).

Unlike the previous three TCOOP events, this one did end with any splitting of the prize pool. Instead, Australian pro Jonathan “MONSTER_DONG” Karamalikis walked away with $59,718.60 after defeating Holland’s “JSlaats” heads-up for the title of TCOOP Event #4 champion.
