The Global Poker Index European Poker Awards ceremony took place in Paris yesterday and three of our own players picked up awards for their performances throughout 2012.
Roberto Romanello, former European Poker Tour Prague champion and creator of the Multi Prize Pool poker format, picked up the UK Player of the Year. Forever the gentleman, a delighted Romanello took to Facebook to thank those who helped make his award possible.
“I would like to say a big thank you, as I picked up the UK Player of the Year last night in Paris at the European Poker Awards,” explained Romanello. “Thanks to Matchbook for their backing throughout 2012. Thanks to all my family and friends :-)”
Dermot Blain was awarded the title of Irish Player of the Year for 2012. The popular pro is a regular on the European circuit, particularly the EPT. During 2012, Blain won two tournaments and had four top 10 cashes that totalled $143,395 in prize money. Watch out for Blain in 2013.
After five years of nominations, Simon Trumper was finally awarded the title of Poker Staff Person of the Year. When Trumper is not playing poker, he spends a huge amount of time fulfilling his role as the Live Poker manager for the superb Dusk Till Dawn poker club.
