PKR WPT National Dublin Main Event Begins Jan.03

The Champions Cup

The first major live tournament of 2013 kicks off on Jan.03 at the Citywest Hotel, Dublin and it promises to be a cracker. We are of course talking about the World Poker Tour (WPT) National Dublin Main Event, brought to you in association with PKR.

The WPT dropped anchor in Dublin this time last year and on that occasion, 338 players exchanged €2,500 for the chance to become a WPT champion. Some of the United Kingdom and Ireland’s finest bought into WPT Dublin and they helped create a €760,500 prize pool. This significant sum of money was shared out amongst the top 36 finishers and some of the players who cashed included Sam Macdonald, Dermot Blain, William Dorey, snooker ace Ken Doherty, “Lil” Dave Nicholson, Daniel Smyth, Ross Boatman and Stuart Fox.

The final table was the home to some very talented players too, Steve Watts being the first casualty from it, whilst Ronan Gilligan busted in third place. Following this third place finish, Gilligan went on to finish in the top three of three more Ireland-based tournaments in 2012 and he will certainly be a threat in this latest WPT event.

Dave Shallow, who defeated Charles Chattha heads-up to get his hands on the Champions Cup and the €222,280 that was awarded to Season 10’s WPT Dublin winner, eventually won the tournament.

You can read more about Shallow’s victory here.

This season, WPT Dublin is being played as a National event, which means it has a lower buy-in Main Event. Gone is the €2,500 and in comes a much more manageable €1,200+€120 buy-in tournament that is sure to attract a bumper crowd who will all be eager to get 2013 off to a flying start.

WPT Dublin will feature two starting flights, Day 1a kicking off at 12:00 on Jan. 03, with Day 1b starting at the same time on Jan. 04. The official Day 2 begins at 12:00 on Jan. 05 and the final table – which will be streamed live online – will commence at midday on Jan. 06.

Please note this tournament is being played to a Re-Entry format. Players who bust out on Day 1a can re-enter on Day 1b. Re-entries on the same day you bust out are not permitted.

Running alongside the main event are a whole host of side events. These tournaments have buy-ins starting at just €60 and increase all the way up to a €2,700 Double Barrel High Roller event. The full WPT Dublin schedule can be found in the table below:
