The Gala Harbourside Casino, Bristol, saw a massive crowd of 315 poker players descend on it for Day 1b of the PokerStars UKIPT Bristol Main Event. Of these 315 starters, just 130 managed to make it through eight one-hour levels. The chip leader at the end of the night was Marinos Mina and his 138,800 stack.
According to his Hendon Mob page, Mina only has two live cashes to his name, but both are solid results. Back in May 2011, Mina finished seventh in the £1,000 Palm Beach Big Game for a career best score of £3,760. The final table was the home to the likes of James Mitchell, Paul Jackson and eventual champion Praz Banzi. More recently, April 2012 to be exact, Mina won a £100 Pot Limit Omaha Double Chance event at the Big Bluff Easter Festival, taking home £1,750 after chopping with Philip Mildon.
Finishing Day 1b second in chips was Emanuele Pani. The unknown Italian ended the day with 127,400 chips, which will be enough to plae him second overall when Day 2 begins at around 12:00 today. Also making it through the day was Team PokerStars Pro Vicky Coren who somehow managed to survive running quads into James Dempsey’s royal flush; Dempsey would later bust out.
During Day 1b the official payouts were announced. The top 72 players will be paid out, a min-cash being worth £1,000, a final table appearance £8,800 whilst the eventual winner will walk away with the gigantic prize of £90,400. Tune in tomorrow for a recap of the action.
