The BoylePoker sponsored International Poker Open (IPO) kicks off today at the Regency Airport Hotel, Dublin where the €230 No Limit Hold’em Main Event is expected to attract hundreds of poker players, all of whom will be eager to get their hands on the winner’s trophy.
Early estimates suggest a field of 1,400 runners is possible, this huge crowd buy-in in over the course of two Day 1s. Day 1a begins at 12:00 today, with Day 1b beginning at noon on Saturday. Day 2 will also kick off at 12:00pm but on Sunday. Once play comes to an end on Sunday the tournament will be paused until Nov. 10 which is when the final table will be played out and streamed live online.
During the IPO a new system called EVCount will be employed that will power the live updates, collate all chip counts, record bustouts, big hands, player Tweets and even feed commentary from the stream. This will be the first time the new system has been deployed and it will be very interesting to see how it copes with such a vast field.
The Boyle Poker poker room manager, Ciaran Corbett, had this to say about the IPO. “We’re expecting another really competitive year for the IPO and to match that intensity we’ve ratcheted up our media coverage and friends, family, fans, players, and punters can get the most up-to-the-minute news and information at the Boylepoker Blog – so drop in to the Regency or drop by the blog and get involved!”
A whole host of familiar faces are expected to turn out for the 2012 IPO, including John O’Shea, 888 Poker’s Padraig Parkinson, Marty SmythMarty Smyth, Nicky Power and Neil Channing.
