GUKPT London Main Event Kicks Off Thursday

GUKPT London

With the World Poker Tour Malta Main Event almost reaching a thrilling climax and the Howard Lederer Files keeping the poker community glued to their internet browsers it is easy to forget that there are some fantastic poker tournaments taking place in the British capital. On Thursday the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour drops anchor in the famous Grosvenor Victoria Casino for the latest installment of the long-running tour.

The £1,070 No Limit Hold'em Main Event should attract some of the biggest names our region has to offer, not just because of the prestige of winning such a title — and the prize money involved of course — but also because they are already in London for the myriad of major poker tournaments that are taking and have taken place over the past fortnight/

Last year's GUKPT London Main Event took place a few months earlier in March but despite the cold weather, 245 players piled into The Vic and created a prize pool of £367,500. The final table was a star-studded affair and saw Jeff Kimber (finished 9th) and Karl Mahrenholz (4th) among others.

The title was eventually won by the popular pro Praz Bansi who defeated the talented German pro, and former professional footballer, Manig Loeser to get his hands on the £101,020 first place prize. Bansi should be in town to defend his title, along with some of the best poker players the UK & Ireland have to offer.

As usual, £1,070 buys you 20,000 starting chips, a one hour clock and the chance to become a GUKPT champion.
