Although extremely popular in online poker circles, short-handed poker tournaments are something of a rarity in the live arena. Whilst players love to compete in them, venues shy away from hosting them due to space and dealer issues so when a short-handed event pops up on the live calendar you should jump at the chance to play it.
Thursday marks the start of the European Short-Handed Champonships, a €550 buy-in tournament that is being held in The Regency Hotel, Dublin. The Main Event will span three days of play thanks to each player starting with a generous stack of 20,000 chips and a 60-minute clock being employed throughout.
Last year's main event attracted a massive crowd of 657 players who were eventually outlasted by Liverpool's Steven King. King walked away with €63,000 for his efforts and this year's champion could leave Dublin with an even larger prize as Day 1b has completely sold out; please bear that in mind if you were planning to choose Friday as your starting day.
Although most will see Thursday as being the start of the European Short-Handed Championships, there is actually a tournament taking place tonight at 20:00. There will be a €60 Super Satellite to the Main Event running that will allow one rebuy and one addon (or two rebuys) priced at €50 each. One seat to Day 1a of the Main Event will be awarded for every €550 in the prize pool.
