According to the Fox Poker Club website, the 2012 Olympics have forced the Palm Beach Big Game to switch from its usual Mayfair home to the Shaftsbury Avenue-based Fox Poker Club.
The sheer number of people in and around London for the Olympic games has seen demand for gaming soar at the Palm Beach Casino and this has resulted in the poker room being reduced in capacity. Instead of having their players cramped and uncomfortable the organisers have made the decision to switch venues to the Fox Poker Club; for this event at least.
The Palm Beach Big Game will now take place at 19:00 on Monday 6 August, which pushes the usual Monday £100 back to 19:30. The Big Game costs £1,000+£80 to enter and sees players start with 15,000 chips and play to a 30-minute blind structure. Late registration will be available until 21:00.
In recent months the Fox Poker Club has really come into its own and has seen attendances for its excellently run tournaments soar. It is therefore no surprise at all that the venue has been selected to host the 2012 English Poker Open.
The English Poker Open Main Event kicks off on Tuesday 18 September at 14:00 and should see some of the best players in the country and Europe go to battle at the felt. The £2,000+£180 buy-in tournament features two starting flights along with a Day 2 and 3; the finale taking place on Friday 21 September.
This tournament last ran in 2010 and saw some amazing talent at the felt. Making it into the money were the likes of Phil “The Unabomber” Laak, Chuck Clark, EPT San Remo winner Liv Boeree, Salman Behbehani, the current UK number 1 online player Mat Frankland and eventual winner Fabian Quoss; the latter taking home £220,650 for his efforts.
