The ever-ambitious Dusk Till Dawn (DTD) poker club kicked off it's £500,000 guaranteed Deepstack tournament yesterday with the first of three starting flights. According to the DTD website there were 235 players who exchanged £560 for 50,000 chips and a 40-minute clock on a blind structure that mirrors the World Series of Poker Main Event.
Unlike in previous DTD Deepstacks, particularly ones that had huge guarantees slapped on them, this event is being played to a freezeout structure rather than a re-entry. This means we will not be seeing the likes of James “Epitomised” Atkin, Amy Trodd, Yucel “Mad Turk” Eminoglu, Ashley Mason, Karl Mahrenholz or Willie Tann making deep runs this time around as they all busted out at various points throughout the afternoon.
One player who we will definitely be seeing on Sunday's Day 2 is Tom Hall who managed to turn his 50,000 starting stack into 548,000 chips, enough to have his name displayed at the top of the chip counts. Other high-fliers include Marcin “marcin123” Milde (445,000), Mike Hill (322,500), Paul “Action” Jackson (316,500), Stuart Fox (276,500) and Maria Demetriou (256,000).
In total 54 players made it through with their chip stacks intact and they will return to the Nottingham based club on Sunday at 14:00 for Day 2. Here are the players in the top 10 in chips at the end of Day 1a.
Today sees another crowd of hopefuls descend on the DTD and it needs to be a huge turnout if the £500,000 guarantee is to be met. There are approximately 100 players pre-registered for Day 1b and 300 have bought in for Day 1c on Saturday. We would fully expect Saturday to be a complete sell out with more than 450 players buying in by the time registration comes to a close at 20:30, which means today's Day 1b needs to attract over 300 runners to be in with a chance of cracking the £500,000 mark.
Tune in tomorrow to find out who came and conquered and which players were left with just shattered dreams.
