WSOP Main Event Day 1c: Dan Morgan Flying High

WSOP Main Event Day 1c: Dan Morgan Flying High 0001

Day 1c was the third and final starting flight of the 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event and it was also by far the largest too, with 3,418 entrants by the time the registration desks closed for business. It was a good day for a large number of UK & Ireland players who made it through the mine field of a WSOP Main Event Day 1 but it was a great day for nine men who ended the day with more than 100,000 chips in their bags.

The best placed of them all was Dan Morgan of Gillingham who turned his 30,000 starting stack into 160,025 by the time five 90-minute levels had been played out. Morgan's stack was enough to place him fifth overall in the Day 1c counts.

Although (if my memory serves me correctly) Morgan is a cash game specialist he does seem to have a knack for accumulating chips in mid-stakes live tournaments, though that huge score has so far eluded him. His biggest live cash to date stands at $33,418 but if he carries on at this pace he will soon be completely eclipsing that amount.

Joining Morgan in the “100k Club,” an unofficial club I have just this second made up, are Paul McTaggert (155,475), Asa Smith (148,475), Karim Jomeen (128,900), Triple Crown winner Jake Cody (124,675), Ben Turnstill (124,550), James Sykes (115,125), online legend Chris Moorman (114,100) and Andrew Gough (110,350).

There were a number of players who increased their stacks by almost 100% too including Chris Brammer (56,800), Ben Vinson (62,125), former November Niner Sam Holden (62,9950), Stephen Devlin (69,300) and Ashley Mason (70,000).

All the players mentioned, plus the other surviving players from Day 1c will return to the Rio on Thursday for Day 2c. They will have to do so without the likes of Eoghan O'Dea, Jon Kalmar, Julian Thew and a trio of former European Poker Tour champions in David Vamplew, Rupert Elder and Roberto Romanello; all of whom busted out during Day 1c.
