Mathew Frankland Claims Number One Spot In UK & Ireland Rankings

Mathew Frankland in action

With every man and hid dog back from their World Series of Poker conquests the online poker scene has exploded in the UK & Ireland this week with plenty of tournament grinders getting back to doing what they do best; crushing all that stand before them at the virtual felt.

One man has been the epitome of consistency in online circles for a number of months and he has now been rewarded with the number one spot in the UK & Ireland rankings; according to Along with his number one UK & Ireland ranking, Mathew “matfrankland” Frankland has climbed to 16th in the world and here at PokerNews we do not think it will be very long before a top 10 worldwide ranking is his.

As mentioned, one of Frankland's strengths is his ability to churn out solid results with great consistency and it has certainly paid off. Frankland was already high in the UK & Ireland rankings when he had two amazing results in the SCOOP back in May. On May 16 he finished fourth in the $1,050 rebuy event for a career best score of $66,130 before following that up four days later with a 10th place finish in the $10,300 SCOOP Main Event; a result that added a further $62,040 to his lifetime winnings.

Back To The Online Grind

Since arriving back from a disappointing trip to Las Vegas, Frankland has hit the virtual felt with renewed enthusiasm and has – as usual – been there or thereabouts in major tournaments. The week he arrived back in the UK he had two outright wins totalling more than $12,000 and in the last seven days Frankland made it into the money 14 times and reached final tables in five of those cashes. Although he won the $51 Hyper-Turbo $12,000 guaranteed on PokerStars, Frankland's biggest score of the past week stands at $5,127.30, which he was awarded for coming third in the $109 buy-in $40,000 guaranteed on PokerStars.

Frankland's recent form has put some distance between him and second placed Kevin “scarface2911” Howe (over 200 leader board points) and around 250 over third placed Ross “RLOG” Loggie. If Frankland keeps up this kind of form then he is going to be very difficult to catch, although we believe he may be taking a well-deserved week away from the tables in the not too distance future; good news for the chasing pack and his opponents.

If you want to find out more about Frankland then be sure to check out our exclusive interview with him that will be available in the coming days.

Making up the rest of the top 10 is the same names and faces as in previous week, albeit in a slightly different order. Online legend Chris “moorman1” Moorman has soared into fourth place whilst Ireland's sole representative Jono "EMSGAWA9" Crute finds himself in eight spot. Both Jack “jackellwood” Ellwood and Toby “810ofclubs” Lewis find themselves occupying ninth and tenth place respectively and will need to get back to putting in the results sooner rather than later of face losing their place in the top 10 to those in the chasing pack. The chasing pack includes the likes of Paul “badpab2” Foltyn, Rupert Elder, Sam “TheSquid” Grafton and Dan “danloulou” Smyth.
