The attendances of the GUKPT Main Events have been on a decline for the past few months but nobody expect just 34 players turning out for Day 1a of the inaugural Belgium stop.
At the start of play only 20 players were in their seats but by the time registration drew to a close that figure had increased to less than expected 34 mainly due to people re-entering. At the close of play just 14 players had chips to bag up, Lee Taylor's 101,275 stack the most of any of the "field."
Taylor was one of the players to re-enter the €1,000+€70 Main Event in Blankenberge as was the reigning Irish Open champion Kevin Vandersmissen; who finished the day with a bag containing 54,700 chips.
Although 34 entries is a rather disappointing number the GUKPT Live Blog claims there will be at least 100 runners for Day 1b due to the sheer number of online qualifiers who asked to play today due to travelling from the UK and around Europe. Let's hop they are correct otherwise yet another poor turnout will only look bad on the long-running tour.
