Day 1b of the inaugural GUKPT Belgium Main Event in Blankenberge has been written into the history books and it was Arne Coulier who bagged up the most chips at the end of play, their 137,500 stack enough to not only be the Day 1b chip leader but the overall chip leader.
Hopes for over 100 entrants were very short of the mark as just 25 players sat down in time for Day 1b to start but the total number of buy-ins increased to 65 by the time registration closed at the end of Level 6. This means just 97 players have entered and the GUKPT management team will have to have a major rethink into their plans and advertising for coming events as attendances like this are rather embarrassing to say the least.
Of the 65 entrants (which includes re-entries) from Day 1b just 28 survived and these players will return to the felt along with the 14 survivors from Day 1a meaning there will be a "crowd" of 42 taking their seats this afternoon. Plans are to play down to the nine-handed final table so the day should be short and sweet for those involved.
The official prizes have yet to be announced but we understand first place will be around €30,000, which still isn't bad for a couple of day's of sitting down and playing cards!
