WSOP Event #2: No Limit Hold'em – Huge Crowd Kicks Off The Series
It is official, the 2012 World Series of Poker is under way and the first open event of the longest-running poker festival in the world has seen its first day completed. Event #2, a $1,500 No Limit Hold'em tournament, attracted a monster-sized field of 2,101 and created a prize pool of $2,836,350 that will be shared out amongst the top 216 finishers.
Leading the way at the end of 11-hours of intense poker action is the UK's Sadan Turker who managed to turn his 4,500 starting stack into a tournament leading 158,100 chips. Turker is somewhat of a specialist when it comes to large fields; having finished second to Sean Getzeiller in a $1,000 No Limit Hold'em event last year, a result that netted him $377,411. That particular tournament attracted 4,178 players!
Other notable UK & Ireland players who have also managed to safely navigate through the massive field include JP Kelly (43,100)and John Eames (28,000) whilst some of the so-called “big names” who have made it through include Eli Elezra (155,900), Brandon Cantu (130,100), Layne Flack (74,500), John Juanda (60,700) and Team PokerStars Pros Vanessa Selbst (52,300) and Jason Mercier (41,900).
Play in this event resumes at 13:00 Las Vegas time (21:00 UK time) and the money bubble will be burst! Who will become the first bubble boy of the WSOP and who will be flying high and in with a shout of the first bracelet of 2012 and the $517,725 first place prize? Tune in tomorrow to find out!
