Waheed “Wadey” Ashraf Wins DTD 150 Deepstack

This weekend saw another DTD 150 Deepstack take place at the Dusk Till Dawn poker club in Nottingham, attracting a total of 343 entries which actually meant there was an overlay to the club of £4,000. At the end of two days of intense and high class poker it was one of the DTD regulars who had won all of the chips in play, Waheed “Wadey” Ashraf.

Anything can happen in tournament poker but since the moment Ashraf burst the bubble when he sent Vittorio Carrath to the rail in 37th place he never looked like he was going to finish in any other position than on top. As the field thinned Ashraf's stack seemed to grow and by the time the eight-haned feature table was set he held a commanding chip lead.

1Garry Hallows570,000
2Jamie Rutherford690,000
3Stephen Fairweather575,000
4Gary North675,000
5Mohammed Shoahebe1,115,000
6Craig Stewart580,000
7Andrew Psaras2,275,000
8Waheed Ashraf3,685,000

Almost as soon as the finale got under way there was a flurry of action that saw a number of eliminations. First to the rail was Garry Hallows in eighth place and he was joined shortly after by Jamie Rutherford and Stephen Fairweather; Ashraf adding to his stack with the elimination of the latter.

Craig Stewart was next to go when his {k-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} could not overtake Mohammed Shoahebe's {A-Clubs}{8-Spades} and when Andrew Psaras missed his flush draw with {A-Spades}{9-Spades} against Ashraf's {k-Hearts}{8-Clubs} on a {k-Spades}{3-Spades}{3-Diamonds} flop play was three-handed.

It stayed this way for over three hours before Gary North's tournament came to an abrupt end. North and Ashraf had been at each other for what seemed like and age and Ashraf looked to be ready to explode; which may explain his rather loose call in North's exit hand. Ashraf opened to 350,000 and when North shoved for 2,000,000 Ashraf insta-called and turned over just {k-Hearts}{9-Hearts}. His loose call was rewarded when a king spiked on the turn to leave Ashraf heads-up with Shoahebe.

The one-on-one battle lasted just a single hand, Ashraf opened to 400,000, Shoahebe moved all in and Ashraf called. Ashraf flipped over a pair of tens and Shoahebe just queen-three! The tens held and Ashraf was announced as the champion, a finish worth almost £15,000!
