It's time for the second of in our series of UK & Ireland players to watch out for at this year's World Series of Poker; Ladies and Gentlemen I give you Mathew Frankland.

Mathew, with one 'T' Frankland is one of the hottest properties in tournament poker right now and is in great form in the online poker world. Frankland, or "Franky" as he is affectionately known, had a tremendous Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) cashing in more than a dezoen of the tournaments on offer including some big scores.

He came fourth in High Event #29, the $1,050 rebuy, that netted him a bankroll-boosting score of $66,130 and he followed that up with a 22nd place finish in the High version of Event #39 the $2,100 No Limit Hold'em Six-Max for a further $11,592. To round off the series he finsihed 10th in the High Main Event for a further $62,040.

These excellent results at the virtual felt have seen his ranking on PocketFives climb to second place in the United Kingdom and 23rd in the world overall. If he keeps up his current form surely a top 10 worldwide ranking is the next step for the man from the North East.

It is not just at the online poker tables that Frankland has a good record because he also have over $360,000 in live tournament winnings - but we suspect that number will be far higher come thee end of the WSOP. His largest live cash to date stands at £77,400 which he was awarded for his third place finish in the 2010 English Open but he came close to beating that at the PartyPoker Premier League where he satellited into the group stages, demolished those and had it not been for a lack of luck on the final table he would certainly have bettered his seventh place finish and €65,000 score.

In last year's WSOP Main Event Frankland had an amazing run but it just was not meant to be. He eventually busted in 121st place, whcih was good for $54,851, but knowing Frankie he would have seen that not as a win but as $8.7 million lost. He will get another crack at Main Event this year and we suspect he will be in plenty of the side events too.

Keep an eye out for his name in the PokerNews Live Reporting pages as he is overdue a huge live score and we hope he gets it this summer.
