The 2012 World Series of Poker is just around the corner and here at UK & Ireland PokerNews we thought it would be a good idea to have a look at some of the players from our region who we think could have amazing WSOP's. There will be some obvious players in there but we will also try to dig out some lesser known players who we will be keeping an eye on in Las Vegas.
Kicking off this little series is the Team PokerStars Pro Jude Ainsworth of Galway Ireland and one of the most consistent performers in online poker circles. Under the username j.thaddeus Ainsworth has won more than $3,000,000 from online poker tournaments on PokerStars alone and when you factor in the other sites he has accounts on his online tournament winnings total almost $3,340,000.
Almost a third of his winnings on PokerStars came from just one tournament, the $10,300 SCOOP Main Event back in 2009. In this event he outlasted 501 opponents to get his hands on the gargantuan $963,338.00 first place prize! Other notable scores for Ainsworth include two third place finishes in the Sunday Million coming to more than $200,000 and more recently he won the Super Tuesday in April for almost $85,000.
In the live arena Ainsworth is yet to have what would be regarded as a huge score in today's game, though he does have combined winnings of nearly $600,000. His largest score in a brick and mortar casino came back in January 2008 when he won the €2,000 Irish Poker Championships in Galway for €145,000.
The online specialist seems to be more suited to slightly faster structures so watch out for the popular Irishman in the $1,000 and $1,500 events but he is certainly not going to be out of his depth when he plays in the $10,000 Main Event as his SCOOP and Sunday Million performances are testament to.
