Just a quick reminder to anyone who did not hear the news last month of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour cancelling it's inaugural visit to Ireland. The long-running tour was due to drop anchor in the Emerald Isle between May 6-13, with the highlight being the €1,000+€70 No Limit Hold'em Main Event that was going to run between May 11-13.
At the time the GUKPT management team simply said the fifth leg of the 2012 tour had to be cancelled due to "unforeseen circumstances" and no further information has come to light since. The only word from the GUKPT camp came from Russell Tamplin, head of poker for Grosvenor Casinos who said, "We are very disappointed that this new leg of the popular GUKPT has been called off. We have been trying to resolve the issues but now know that they cannot be settled in time for the May dates."
This is a hammer blow for the GUKPT who have seen attendances plummet this season. GUKPT Ireland would have been a great opportunity to pick up some much needed support for the tour that seems to be out of favour to other tours such as the PokerStars sponsored UKIPT and the new Genting Poker Series.
The Hendon Mob database is showing that the leg has been cancelled but just in case you know anyone who may have missed the announcement and still thinks they are going to be able to play in the Main Event let them know the next GUKPT they can participate in is between June 3-10 in Belgium.
If you have won a GUKPT Ireland package through the G Casino online poker site then you are urged to contact their support staff who will exchange your package for a different stop on the tour. Those of you who won a package on a different site are advised to contact their support teams also and attempt to come to some arrangement with them.
