If matters were not already serious before in the PokerStars UKIPT Dublin Main Event they certainly are now because as we write this little recap of the action only 58 players remain and the prize money is growing increasingly substantial.
The man who leads the way when the cards are back in the air at 12:00 this afternoon is the 58-year old managing director Robert Healey who went on somewhat of a heater towards the end of Day 2 to finish with 454,800 chips and the overall chip lead with just 58 players remaining. Hot on Healey's heels are the likes of Con Collins (348,500), Lee Atherton (342,200) and Shifaaz Taus (315,400); the only other payers still in the tournament that have at least 300,000 chips.
When play got under way yesterday with 244 players the money bubble seemed far, far away but it did indeed burst during Saturday afternoon and it was the unfortunate Brandon Rollinson who was the man who burst it. He open-shoved for around 14 big blinds with pocket jacks and found a caller in the shape of Mark Baxter and his ace-king. An ace on the flop was more than enough to bust Rollinson and leave everyone else safe with the knowledge they would be taking home some cash — €1,000 — for their efforts over the past few days.
The plan of action today is to play down to the eight-handed final table, at which point each player who has chips in front of them will have locked up at least €9,600 and will be just seven players away from €100,000 in cash and the title of UKPT Dublin champion.
