When you look at the attendance figures for a poker tournament and see the numbers 2,324 staring back at you, you either think you are looking at an online poker tournament or one of the "donkaments" at the World Series of Poker. Well that used to be the case but not any more because huge fields also descend on the Dusk Till Dawn poker club in Nottingham and do so on a regular basis.
Over the weekend the €60 buy-in Grand Prix VI came to a thrilling conclusion when James Clarke bested a talented nine-handed final table. Clarke is a regular at the DTD club, in fact all six of his previous live cashes came at the venue. He came 158th in the recent record-breaking UKIPT Nottingham Main Event but his biggest score prior to his Grand Prix win was for a bankroll-boosting £14,310 that he was awarded for finishing fifth in the July 2011 Monte Carlo event won by Alex Goulder. Now Clarke's largest tournament win tops the scales at an impressive €21,913.13.
Amongst Clarke's eight final table opponents were no fewer than four Golden Chips holders who all walked away with a fantastic extra prize. The Golden Chips promotion meant whoever reached the final table of this Grand Prix would walk away with a £6,000 package to the St Kitts Caribbean Poker event! A welcome boost for any aspiring poker player.
