APAT Welsh Amateur Poker Championship This Weekend
In a poker world dominated by $10,000 Main Events and $1,000,000 buy-in charity tournaments it is easy to forget that not everyone carries their bankrolls around in wheelbarrows and has to start on the path to super stardom somewhere.
Thankfully the Amateur Poker Association & Tour (APAT) realise this and host a number superb tournaments up and down the country that allow budding poker pros to sample what it is like to play in a well-run, deep stacked live tournament without having to pay a small fortune for the privilege or have to worry about being seated on a table with eight pro players.
One such tournament is taking place this weekend at the G Casino, Cardiff the APAT Welsh Amateur Poker Championship. This is a £75+£8 buy-in tournament that will see players start with 15,000 chips and play to a great blind structure - starting at just 25/50 - that increases every 45-minutes.
If the Welsh leg is anything like the English Championship held in April then whoever enters is in for a real treat. That particular event attracted 165 players to the G Casino in Coventry and was eventually won by Mike Hudson; who walked away with £3,825 in his back pocket after a week of first-rate poker. Will it be you who is mentioned on these very pages after the weekend?
