Over the weekend, whilst many people had their eyes fixated on the PokerStars.com European Poker Tour Main Event live coverage on PokerNews and the live stream on PokerStars.TV there was a heads-up cash game battle going on between Team PokerStars Pro Viktor Blom and fellow high-stakes poker guru Isaac "philivey2694" Haxton.
After losing twice to Haxton in the standard SuperStar Showdown Blom accepted a third challenge from his nemesis to play for higher stakes — much higher stakes. In the standard SuperStar Showdown Blom and his opponents sit down at four tables of No Limit Hold'em or Pot Limit Omaha with blinds of $50/$100 and play until 2,500 hands have been completed or one has lost $150,000. But this is a special $1,000,000 SuperStar Showdown where Blom and Haxton are playing $200/$400 in four hour sessions and will continue to play each other every day until one of them has won a cool $500,000!
Many members of the poker community, this humble scribbler included, expected Haxton to run away with proceedings but nothing could be further from the truth. At time of writing Haxton trails by a massive $281,365 and now has his work cut out if he is to defeat his hyper-aggressive Swedish opponent. Blom was over $382,000 in front but he lost a $75,600 coinflip with against late in yesterday's match to close the gap somewhat.
Blom and Haxton will sit back down at the virtual felt at 13:00 Eastern Time, or 18:00 UK time, and play for a maximum of four hours; if Haxton makes it that far.
