UKIPT Nottingham Reaches £1m Guarantee; Marcin Milde Leads After Day 1a

Yesterday was Day 1a of the PokerStars.com UKIPT Nottingham Main Event, which the Dusk Till Dawn poker club placed a massive £1,000,000 guarantee on. Many members of the poker community thought the management team had lost the plot but their gamble has paid off as the mammoth-sized guarantee has not only been met but they are on course to reach £1.1m!

A massive crowd of 532 players showed up at the Nottingham-based club, which when you consider Day 1a is the smallest of starting days traditionally we are in for a record-breaking field and the possibility of a £220,000 first place prize — from a £700 entry fee! The tournament progressed nicely but there will be some tired eyes amongst the media today because the players had to complete 11 one-hour levels; during which time the field was reduced to just 100 runners.

Leading the way when the chips were bagged and tagged was Marcin Milde who will return for Day 2 armed with 278,800 chips, which we would not be surprised if that lead the entire tournament after the three starting flights have been completed. Other big stacks belong to Sean Byrne (218,800), Phil Long (193,200), Shean Smith (175,900) and Timothy Chung (159,900).

Of course there are also a whole host of players who will not be joining the aforementioned big stacks for Day 2. Amongst the sad faces who busted out were last year's champion Gareth Walker, former UKIPT Nottingham champion Andrew Couldridge and the current European Poker Tour Loutraki champion Zimnan Ziyard.
