Nicky Evans had a great April Fool's day by helping himself to the top prize in the $215 buy-in Sunday Supersonic tournament over on PokerStars. For his efforts Evans scooped the top prize of $43,742.25.
This latest win is one of Evans' largest scores at the virtual felt, his biggest cash to date topping the scales at $58,476.00 that he picked up when he won the $250,000 Guaranteed Sunday major on the iPoker Network back in October 2009. Evans had to navigate his way through a stacked field that included the likes of recent EPT Copenhagen champion Mickey "mement_mori" Petersen and Nacho Barbero before taking care of fellow Brit thehills1 heads-up.
Evans now has over $1,320,000 in online tournament winnings including more than $625,000 on PokerStars where he plays under the alias cod meharly.
Evans is one of the most feared and respected Brits in online poker though his current ranking on PocketFives (541st in the world) does not really do him any justice. However, if you go back to just July 2011 Evans was ranked 58th in the world at a time when he put in much more volume. Maybe this win will propel him back up the rankings once again?
It is not just online poker where Evans has some great results, he is also a talented player in the live arena too. Back in February he took down the C$2,500 buy-in Fallsview Poker Classic for a cool C$308,006 to push his live earnings past the half a million dollar mark.
The Sunday Supersonic is a $215 buy-in tournament that sees players start with 3,000 chips and play to three-minute blinds that start at 20/40/10a, hence the speedy name in the title. This week's tournament attracted 1,137 players and the $239,679.60 prize pool completely smashed the $125,000 guarantee.
You can play the Sunday Supersonic only on PokerStars. Download PokerStars through Pokernews, enter the marketing code UKPOKERNEWS and the bonus code STARS600 and you will be able to claim a 100% up to $600 first deposit bonus!
