British pro Mathew Frankland has earned himself a shot at the big time after qualifying for the PartyPoker Premier League V yesterday.

The 23-year old Middlesbrough native won his seat to the live final on PartyPoker and he played that live final yesterday. The tournament was played to a winner-takes-all format with just one seat to the Premier League finals up for grabs. This may sound a little Scrooge-like on PartyPoker's behalf but please bear in mind that entry to the Premier League costs an eye-watering $125,000!

Frankland progressed from Event 1 Group A with 887,000 chips from a starting stack of 300,000, enough to place him first from the three who progressed from his heat. Fellow Brit Andrew Feldman, Erich Kollman and PartyPoker Pro Bodo Sbrzensy failed to male it through but joining "Franky" in round two were Dmitry Tretyakov and the latest addition to the PartyPoker roster Amatos Gomila.

The youngster then played superbly throughout the six-handed final and when he found himself up against another PartyPoker Pro in the shape of the popular Giovanni Rizzo, Frankland had a nation of poker players behind him willing him on. The one-on-one battle was all over within 20-minutes with the final hand taking place at around 16:00 yesterday afternoon. Rizzo opened to 160,000 with {A-Spades}{4-Clubs}, Frankland moved all-in for 2,115,000 with a dominating {A-Hearts}{6-Spades} and the Italian made the call. The flop of {4-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{10-Spades} gifted both players a pair but Frankland was well in front and when the turn and river were the {8-Diamonds} and {3-Spades} respectively Frankland had scopped the $125,000 seat!

If Frankland thought qualifying was tough then wait until he has to sit down with the following people over the next couple of days. His opponents in the Premier League are the infamous Tony G, Luke Schwartz, Phil "The Unabomber" Laak, Andy Frankenberger, Erik Seidel, Team PokerStars Pro Eugene Katchalov and Tom "durrrr" Dwan.

Although he'll be surrounded by some of the biggest names in world poker Frankland will not be fazed. He is currently ranked seventh in the UK for online tournament play, 44th in the world, has almost $930,000 in online tournament winnings and just shy of $300,000 in winnings from the live arena. The very best of luck from everyone at UK & Ireland PokerNews.
