2012 Irish Open Begins On Friday

Niall Smyth

One of the popular stops on the live poker calendar starts on Friday 6 April at the Burlington Hotel in the Irish capital Dublin. We are of course talking about the 2012 PaddyPowerPoker Irish Open.

From April 6-9 the longest-running European poker festival will be awash with some of the most recognisable faces in the business including Daniel Negreanu and Phil Hellmuth who are in the Emerald Isle for the iSeriesLIVE event. Other notable players that locked in to play are November Niner Eoghan O'Dea, World Poker Tour winner James Dempsey, Dave "Devilfish" Ulliott and a whole host of other well-known names and faces.

Day 1 of the €3,200+€300 Main Event starts at 14:00 on Friday with Day 2 kicking off two hours earlier at noon on Saturday. Day 3 will start at 12:00 on Sunday with the final table set back to 14:00 on Monday 9 April. Last year's Main Event attracted 615 runners, creating a prize pool of €1,968,000, the lion's share of which was won by Niall Smyth who walked away with a not-too-shabby €550,000. In addition to more than half of a million Euros Smyth was also awarded an extra €100,000 for being the last PaddyPowerPoker qualifier in the field as part of their Sole Survivor promotion.

Along with the eagerly anticipated Main Event this year's Irish Open features a whole host of tournaments including six-max events, Pot Limit Omaha, turbos, bounty tournaments and more. The full schedule can be seen below:
