The Poker770 sponsored MegaPokerSeries Nottingham Main Event kicked off yesterday at the Dusk Till Dawn poker club with a less than anticipated crowd of just 63 runners deciding to play on Day 1a.
As you would expect from a tournament based in the UK the field was mainly British players but what was surprising was the number of well-known and established players in the field. Former European Poker Tour Vilamoura champion Toby Lewis was in attendance, though he busted out during the course of the day, John Conroy took part as did the SNG grinder James "Epitomised" Atkin.
The man currently ranked number one in the world online poker tournaments Chris Brammer was terrorising opponents all day long as was Ben "Son of Paul" Jackson and lest us not forget everyone's favourite blogger in Adam "Snoopy" Goulding. Each of the players mentioned will be returning to the fray on Friday for Day 2 of the MegaPokerSeries Nottingham Main Event.
Other players that certainly deserve a mention on these pages as they managed to turn their 77,000 starting stack into more than 200,000; a difficult task considering the small field and deepstacked structure. Jean Luc Belin is the man they all have to catch with 295,500 chips and he is narrowly ahead of the Poker770 sponsored pro Julian Herold on 260,600. Other players to make it past the 200,000 chip barrier were Mitchell Johnson, Daniel Haglund, Andrew Hulme, Marc Wright and Stephen Rawle.
Today sees a fresh load of players descend on Dusk Till Dawn and a much larger crowd is expected. At least 15 players have won their seats through live satellites held at DTD whilst we believe Mr Lewis will probably re-enter and we also have word that John Eames is going to try his luck after a golfing / poker holiday over in Mauritius, what a life.
You can follow the action over on the MegaPokerSeries live blog but be sure to check in here tomorrow for a recap of all the action from Nottingham.
