PaddyPowerPoker Irish Open

The 2012 Irish Open takes place between April 6-9 at the Burlington Hotel in Dublin and it promises to be one of the biggest and best tournaments to take place on the Emerald Isle this year.

The Irish Open is Europe's longest-running No Limit Hold'em poker tournament and the second-longest in the world after the World Series of Poker, having first been played in 1981. Over the years there have been a whole host of star players taking part and some of the biggest names in the business have lifted the coveted trophy, including Noel Furlong, Liam Flood, the Hendon Mob's Joe Beevers, Marty Smyth, Neil Channing and James Mitchell. This year could see the names Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth and Erick Lindgren added to that exclusive list because they have been confirmed as playing in the €3,500 Main Event.

It will be the first time the trio have played in Ireland and to celebrate the Irish Open's sponsor, PaddyPowerPoker, are running an Irish Open Mega Satellite that will take place on Sunday 18 March. This €300+€20 freezeout will award at least 30 Irish Open packages worth €4,600 each!

Each package consists of:

  • Five nights accommodation and breakfast at the Burlington Hotel, Dublin from April 5-10
  • €655 for flights and spending

His finish netted him €163,300 but he was the Sole Survivor so PaddyPower paid him an additional €100,000!

That particular tournament was won by Niall Smyth who walked away with the €550,000 first place prize after besting a final table that was the home to Surinder Sunar and John Eames. Smyth was also the Sole Survivor last year adding €100,000 to his cash prize!
