The second leg of the 2012 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) is in full swing at the Grosvenor Casino on Bentley Mill Way, Walsall where between now and Sunday 18 March there will be some added value tournaments taking place.
Tonight sees a £300+£30 No Limit Hold'em kick off at 19:30 whilst those of you who prefer four holecards to two are catered for tomorrow at 18:00 when the £250+£25 Pot Limit Omaha event gets underway. Thursday has a £200+£20 Six Max No Limit Hold'em tournament whilst Friday sees the crowning jewel, the £1,000+£70 Main Event take place.
Last year's Main Event attracted 172 players and it was London taxi driver Andy Mansbridge who outlasted a star-studded field to get his hands on the GUKPT trophy and the £50,000 first place prize. Although he is a poker enthusiast Mansbridge did not believe he was going to go deep in the tournament and as a result never booked a hotel room! His lack of confidence did him no harm as he defeated a final table that was the home to the likes of Ryan Spittles, Simon Deadman, and Nick Hicks on his way to victory.
This year's edition clashes with the European Poker Tour Madrid Main Event along with the 150 Deepstack taking place at the Dusk Till Dawn poker club in Nottingham so there probably will not be a better chance to bag yourself a GUKPT title. Play kicks off in the Main Event at 14:00 on Friday and if you're heading down that give us a shout on Twitter and we will try to follow your progress!
