Sam Trickett Reaches Final Table of $100,000 Challenge

Sam Trickett

Sam Trickett had the best year of his life during 2011 and it was kick-started by winning the $100,000 Challenge at the Aussie Millions. Unbelievably, Trickett has made it to the final table of the very same event this year and is only seven opponents away from yet another seven-figure score.

Although the tournament attracted 16 fewer players than the 2011 edition, there were still 22 of the best poker players in the world in attendance including Tom "durrrr" Dwan, Team PokerStars Pros Daniel Negreanu and Jason Mercier, Erik Seidel and Phil Ivey, and those players just mentioned busted out during Day 1!

The surviving eight players will return to their seats inside the luxurious Crown Casino, Melbourne at around 1430 local time, which is 0130 for us Brits, knowing four of them will be walking away with nothing to show for their efforts except a $100,000 hole in their wallets. Our hero has a lot of work to do as he will start the day armed with 73,000 chips (14.6BB) and is eighth in chips, but if anyone can turn it round it is Mr Trickett.

$100,000 Challenge Payouts

The men Trickett and Co. have to catch are Gus Hansen (567,000) and former World Series of Poker Main Event champion Joe Hachem (538,000). Hansen's appearance at the Aussie Millions had been cast into doubt after he was sucked into the "Big Game" in Macau, a cash game with blinds of $1,300/$2,600, where he won a reported $4,000,000 in less than a week! However, he has torn himself away from the cash games and is back in the casino where he won the 2007 Aussie Millions Main Event.

Making up the final eight players are Dan Smith (346,500), Mikhail Smirnov (265,000), Sorel Mizzi (228,500) the infamous PartyPoker Pro Tony G (102,000) and Nam Le (79,500). The blinds will be 2,500/5,000 and play will continue until the $100,000 Challenge champion is crowned.
