They say Venice is one of the most romantic cities in the entire world but a couple of Brits were not feeling the love yesterday as they busted out of the World Poker Tour Venice Main Event on Day 1a. Both John Eames and and Tamer Kamel opted to join 76 others on Day 1a of WPT Venice but if either want to win the Main Event they will have to re-enter this afternoon on Day 1b.
Eames, fresh from chopping a €2,000 side event for €100,000, just never managed to get going during the day at all despite having a completely ridiculous table draw all day long. This humble scribbler witnessed time and time again him raising only to be called in four spots and when he did manage to get heads up with one of his fishy opponents he kept walking into sets and full houses! He did double up to 30,000 or so at one stage when his held against but his exit hand was typical of how the day went for him.
The popular Brit got his money in with against and despite the giving him a million an one outs then the turn even more he bricked the river and was sent for an early bath. We do know Eames will be re-entering today and will be as hungry as ever to take down this Main Event.
Kamel was flying high at one point and with just a couple of hours until the end of play he was armed with around 50,000 chips but a series of losses in quick succession saw him heading for the exits empty handed. Kamel is a regular on the UK poker circuit, particularly in London where he has had some impressive results over the past couple of year, with cashes totalling more than $65,000.
There are reports of a number of Brits joining Eames in today's game but as yet there are no concrete confirmations. I personally saw Roberto Romanello walking around the casino so expect him to play and also the recent PokerStars EPT Loutraki winner Zimnan Ziyard too so hopefully one of these trio can go deep and give us all someone to rail! Good luck boys.
