James "LJamesL" Williams of Team Sky Poker won the Sky Poker Tour Grand Final this weekend at Dusk Till Dawn in Nottingham. Williams, from Swindon, beat Astel Cowan and 373 other runners to take down over £22,000.
Williams had returned as one of the very shortest stacks on day 2 but went on a rush to begin the final table second in chips behind Kristian Downer, who was to eventually finish third. The final table also featured UKIPT champion and Black Belt Poker Pro Jamie Burland.
Details of the 2011/2012 tour have already been announced and includes a much more varied schedule than ever before. The tour begins on 29th-30th October with a 180 runner Six-Max event at Dusk Till Dawn, the first of seven legs offering a total of £250,000 in guaranteed prize pools. Satellite qualification of the first event begins this week on www.skypoker.com, where you will find details of the whole of new tour.
This writer was at the event, and lucky enough to creep into the money. As is always with the tour, it was one of the best natured events on the poker circuit. Not only that, when you add the superb structure and staff of Dusk Till Dawn, it has become the must attend event in the UK for me now – a tremendously organized, good natured, deep structured, affordable event, with a huge first prize and a ‘last day of school’ atmosphere surrounding it.
The 2011/2012 season, in my opinion, will elevate the Sky Poker Tour from being a community based get together, to a coveted mid-stakes event any player would be proud to hold a title in.
